BUILT THROUGH
trying again.

I'm Jakob Corse-Scott. I started learning e-commerce because I wanted to prove to myself that it could work.

I didn't begin with a perfect plan, a winning product or even a clear understanding of how to make a sale. I started with a laptop, a free YouTube course, and an enormous amount of curiosity.

For years, I built online stores that didn't work. What I couldn't see at the time was that every store was teaching me a skill I would eventually need.

At 14, after several failed attempts, I found a product that changed the direction of my business. And even then, the biggest lessons were still ahead.

Today, I'm continuing to build, learn and create — including JAKOB SCOTT, a separate clothing and fragrance label. This website is about the person and the journey behind the businesses.

IT BEGAN IN THE
back seat.

It started on a family trip to the Gold Coast. My dad was trying dropshipping, spending money and struggling to make it work. Watching that made me think: How hard can it really be?

THE CAMPERVAN / GOLD COAST

I was in the back with my new Christmas laptop. Dad and my sister were up front. That was where I opened a free YouTube course and got to work.

THE START

Nine hours, one laptop

I spent nine hours straight following that course. I found a product, built a website and showed Dad. His reaction made me feel like I might actually be onto something. But the course only took me so far — and I had no idea what to do next.

THE NEXT
TWO YEARS

Getting good before getting paid

I kept watching YouTube videos and building Shopify stores over and over. I became confident designing websites, even though I still didn't know how to turn that skill into a profitable business. Looking back, those hours were one of the best investments I made.

THE EARLY
ATTEMPTS

Another store. Another lesson.

I tried selling accessories for Land Rover Defenders and thought this was finally going to be my breakthrough. It wasn't. I built more stores after that. They failed too. Dad kept telling me that I couldn't keep working this hard forever without learning something that would pay off.

THE SHIFT

Asking for help

I realised there was a difference between knowing how to build a store and knowing how to make it succeed. I asked Dad to help me find a mentor — someone who had done it before and could show me what I was missing. I had the Shopify skills, but still needed guidance. Even with that help, my next attempt failed.

ONE MORE
TRY

Almost giving up

I remember telling Dad, “I'm done. This doesn't work.” He told me to keep going and that something would work. I decided to give it one more try. That decision changed everything.

AGE 14

The first real breakthrough

For the first time, I found a product that took off. The business reached six-figure monthly sales, something I had worked towards for years. It was proof that the skills I'd built through all those unsuccessful attempts mattered.

THE NEXT
CHALLENGE

Learning how fragile success can be

Copyright-related problems disrupted the business. A subscription model helped provide a continuing revenue base while we worked through the issues. We recovered and eventually surpassed the previous performance. The experience changed how I thought about risk, ownership and building something sustainable.

THE LESSON

Protecting what you build

Later, a business relationship ended after a difficult disagreement about how my company and its results were represented. I learned that choosing the right people, understanding agreements and protecting your work matter as much as growing a business.

TODAY

A new chapter

I'm taking everything I've learned into the next projects, including JAKOB SCOTT — an independent fashion and fragrance label. This isn't the end of the story. It's just the next chapter.

“Do it all with a smile on your face.”

A BELIEF THAT GUIDES ME

“A winner is just someone who failed one more time.”

WHAT THE JOURNEY
taught me.

A few thoughts I come back to whenever things get difficult. They're not shortcuts. They're reminders to keep moving, learn faster and appreciate the process.

01 / PERSISTENCE

A winner is just someone who failed one more time.

The difference is often the willingness to make another attempt — but to make it smarter than the last.

02 / EXECUTION

Learn fast. Build fast. Improve faster.

Hard work matters, but so does acting on what you learn instead of waiting for the perfect moment.

03 / PERSPECTIVE

Do it all with a smile on your face.

There will be wins and setbacks. Learning to enjoy the process makes the long road worth travelling.

04 / GROWTH

Everything I wanted two years ago looks different today.

Progress can be hard to see while you're in the middle of it. Looking back makes the growth real.

05 / VALUES

Discipline creates freedom.

The habits you keep when nobody's watching shape the opportunities you eventually have.

06 / TIMING

When it's meant to be, it will be.

I try to control the effort and decisions, even when I can't control how quickly the results arrive.

04

THINGS I'M
building.
